EasyJet Holidays has launched 'football free getaways' to cater to holidaymakers seeking to avoid World Cup fever. New research by easyJet reveals that 43% of the UK population wants to escape the football frenzy, with over a third of travellers explicitly preferring or requiring hotels that offer limited or no live football screenings.
Screen-Free Sanctuaries
The airline has handpicked a selection of destinations known as 'screen free' hotels, which do not have TVs in communal areas to air football matches. This allows travellers to avoid stumbling into bustling match-day crowds during their relaxing evenings at resorts. Over half of holidaymakers said that football had a negative impact on their vacations, and 31% said they would pay an extra £25 to £100 per night for a verified screen-free zone.
Destinations and Motivation
Many holidaymakers are opting for countries like Italy, where the likelihood of being surrounded by football fans is reduced as Italy is not participating in this year's World Cup. Stuart Wright, customer director of easyJet Holidays, said: 'We know how much our customers look forward to taking a break from everyday life, but for more than one in three Brits, a true summer break means escaping football culture entirely. While we are proudly catering to the night-owl supporters with our dedicated match hubs, we know that peace is a premium for a large portion of our travellers. By highlighting these verified, screen-free sanctuaries across our European and North African destinations, we’re making it easier than ever for holidaymakers to guarantee an uninterrupted, tranquil summer getaway.'
