Daily Express readers are questioning Michael Carrick's future after Manchester United lost 3-0 at home to Bournemouth on Sunday. The defeat compounded a difficult week for the Red Devils, who also lost 4-1 to Como in the Champions League, leaving United 16th in the Premier League table after eight matches.
Boos at full-time
Boos rang out at full-time, with Carrick visibly dejected as he waved to the Old Trafford faithful while exiting the pitch. United are without a win in eight matches, having claimed victory just twice in the league this season.
Goals from Rayan, Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson sealed a dominant away win for Bournemouth, with United cut through on several occasions.
Team selection decisions
Carrick made the decision not just to drop captain Bruno Fernandes, but not to bring him onto the pitch at all, despite United being in desperate need of goals. Matheus Cunha, also left out, was brought on in an attempt to address the drubbing, but the Brazilian's efforts were in vain and the home support made their feelings clear through jeers at full-time.
Lisandro Martinez, who has spoken out against the club publicly in recent weeks, was also named on the substitutes' bench, while Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro struggled against a vibrant Bournemouth attack.
Carrick's response
Carrick fronted up to the responsibility in his post-match interview but the head coach is facing the prospect of losing his job in the next few hours. Speaking to Sky Sports after the defeat, Carrick said: "I have to say, it's really difficult for me to have a day like this at this football club and to feel the emotion and the dynamics of what it was like today.
"Not for me personally, but for Manchester United. It was, yeah, it was really mixed today. Of course, I feel a lot of responsibility.
"You know, I've been at the club a long time and in the position I'm in, I feel a lot of responsibility. So it hurts an awful lot to see us going through this moment in time."
Readers are being asked to vote in a poll on whether Carrick should be sacked now and share their opinions in the comments.
