A traditional fish and chip shop in Devon is earning widespread acclaim, with delighted customers declaring it the finest in the county and returning repeatedly for its 'perfect' meals.
A Chippie with a View
Nestled on Golf Links Road in the heart of Westward Ho!, Atlantic Bay Fish and Chips boasts not just a superb menu but also breathtaking views of Lundy Island and the Atlantic Ocean. This charming establishment has become a firm favourite with both locals and tourists alike.
With an impressive 4.2 out of 5 rating on Tripadvisor, it consistently ranks among the area's top chippies based on glowing customer feedback. The menu features all the classic favourites, from cod and haddock to sausages and pies, ensuring there's something for everyone.
A Recipe for Success
The story of Atlantic Bay is one of passion and expertise. The shop, originally known as The Golden Fry, was taken over by the duo Kate and Chris in May 2018. By that December, they had completely renovated the premises, giving it a fresh new look and a new name.
Chris brought years of valuable experience from his role as manager at the award-winning Harbourside Fish and Chip shop in Plymouth. Meanwhile, Kate worked diligently behind the scenes to craft the brand's identity. Together, they have built a business that has gradually won the affection of the entire community.
Customer Praise Pours In
The affection for Atlantic Bay is vividly clear from the effusive reviews left by satisfied diners. One customer raved, calling it "Simply the best!" They praised their meal of battered sausage, chips, and halloumi, noting the food was piping hot and incredibly crispy.
Another review highlighted the quality of the core offering: "Excellent fish and chips, cooked to order. Fresh as, great batter with beautiful fresh cod. Highly recommended."
The chip shop has received particular recognition for its excellent gluten-free options. One patron enthusiastically noted, "Best Gluten free fish and chips ever. No grease and very well cooked 10 out of 10 would highly recommend."
While the food receives near-universal praise, one customer did mention a minor quibble about the wooden forks, but concluded that the meal was "worth it!!" Another review went so far as to call it "possibly the best Fish and Chips in North Devon," commending the friendly staff and perfectly cooked, lightly battered fish.
