A runaway peacock named Dave has become an unlikely internet sensation after spending six weeks on the loose in Leicestershire. The bird flew away from his home in Claybrooke Magna and settled in the village of Broughton Astley, where his antics have sparked a digital obsession.
Owner Alex Robinson expressed astonishment at the attention Dave has received. 'It’s just mad really, all the attention that Dave’s gotten,' she said. AI-generated memes of Dave have gone viral, depicting him eating burgers, playing instruments, and operating a helicopter. Even a local riding school has joined in, sharing humorous images.
Dave's fame extends beyond WhatsApp groups, with a dedicated Facebook group tracking his movements and a TikTok account under the handle Only Dave's Fans bringing his travels to a global audience. The community has rallied together, transforming a small search party into a tight-knit detective agency.
While Dave was safely returned home on Tuesday evening, two other peacocks, Glenda and Kenneth, remain on the run. Ms Robinson believes they are 'enjoying a break' in nearby fields. The search for the remaining birds continues, with the village unlikely to forget their feathered guest anytime soon.
