In an unprecedented move for the maritime industry, Cunard Line is set to make theatrical history by bringing a full-scale West End production to the high seas. The acclaimed musical Come From Away will be performed aboard the Queen Elizabeth cruise ship during a special transatlantic crossing in 2026.
The groundbreaking partnership between Cunard and the producers of the Tony Award-winning show represents the first time a major West End musical will be staged in its entirety on a cruise ship. The production will be performed in the ship's Royal Court Theatre, offering passengers a unique cultural experience while sailing between Southampton and New York.
A Perfect Maritime Story
Come From Away tells the remarkable true story of 7,000 airline passengers stranded in the small Newfoundland community of Gander during the 9/11 attacks. The musical's themes of hospitality, cross-cultural connection and maritime travel make it particularly suited to Cunard's transatlantic tradition.
'The spirit of the musical, which celebrates compassion and unity, aligns perfectly with Cunard's values,' said Katie McAlister, President of Cunard. 'We're creating an unforgettable experience for our guests that blends world-class entertainment with our iconic transatlantic voyage.'
Special Themed Voyage
The seven-night sailing departs Southampton on 5 July 2026, with the production scheduled for multiple performances throughout the crossing. The voyage will include special events and discussions with cast members and the creative team behind the celebrated musical.
Originally premiering on Broadway in 2017 before transferring to London's West End, Come From Away has received critical acclaim worldwide for its heartwarming story and innovative staging. The shipboard production will maintain the professional standards of its land-based counterparts, featuring members of the original creative team.
This innovative approach to cruise entertainment signals Cunard's commitment to elevating the cultural offerings available to passengers at sea, blending traditional cruise experiences with world-class artistic performances.
