Cuddle Highland Cows at Scottish Farm's £25 Experience

Animal lovers can now arrange a visit to Aikenshill Farm in Aberdeenshire to spend time with its herd of more than 60 Highland cows. The experience costs £25 per person and gives guests the chance to get up close to the distinctive cattle.

A Family Decision That Grew

The farm's story began in 2012, when its owners brought three one-year-old heifers, Erin, Leah and Sorrel, from the Kynedor fold. They were originally brought home as an alternative to buying horses for the family's daughters.

What started as a family decision soon developed into something much bigger, with the fold gradually expanding over the years. Aikenshill is now home to more than 60 Highland cattle, attracting members of the public and travellers keen to see the animals for themselves.

Why Highland Cows Stand Out

The farm describes the breed as regal, with an almost prehistoric appearance that sets them apart from other cattle. Their thick ginger coats, long horns and trademark fringes make them easy to recognise, and they have become a familiar feature of the Scottish countryside.

Highland cows are well suited to Scotland's often wet and cold weather, with their long coats helping to keep them warm. Among the animals at Aikenshill is Ivanka, the oldest Highland cow born at the farm, who is now eight years old.

What Visitors Can Expect

For guests, the experience provides an opportunity to meet the cattle up close and personal while spending time with the herd, rather than just catching a glimpse of them from across a field. During the visit, guests will be able to brush and feed the cows while spending time in the field.

The experience could appeal to families looking for an animal-focused day out, visitors touring Aberdeen or anyone who has always wanted to see Highland cows up close. The Highland cow experience costs £25 per person. Visitors should check the farm's booking information for availability and book through the farm's official website.
