Couple visits 70 countries without using annual leave

Warren and Rebecca Turley, a couple from Leigh, have managed to visit over 70 countries while barely using their annual leave, thanks to weekend trips and flexible jobs.

Weekend getaways and global adventures

The couple, who run the social media page 'The Travelling Turley', have built a following of 40,000 on Instagram and just under 8,000 on Facebook. Warren, 36, and Rebecca, 41, met ten years ago and started their page just over two years ago.

Their travel schedule includes frequent weekend trips, such as a recent visit to Gothenburg, as well as longer holidays about twice a year. Warren said: "We do a lot of weekend trips, we've just this weekend come back from Gothenburg. We went on Saturday morning come back yesterday at like five o'clock."

He added: "For our longer trips probably twice-a-year. We've ticked off six out of seven continents and we've been to 70 countries in ten-and-a-half years we've been together."

Flexible jobs and travel perks

Rebecca works in education, while Warren has several unconventional roles that offer flexibility, including as a rugby league referee, an exam invigilator, and a registered travel agent. Warren explained: "I don't have a strict 9 to 5, I'm a registered travel agent so we get some perks for that."

He continued: "I do some examining, and that gives me the flexibility, because it only happens twice a year and it gives me the ability to have a bit more time. I'm a rugby referee as well, so that only tends to be on the weekends and in certain times of the year."

The couple have travelled to destinations including France, Sweden, Belgium, Egypt, Japan, Qatar, and South Africa. Their passion for travel was inspired by wildlife documentaries, and a South Africa trip two years ago prompted them to share their journeys online.

Sharing tips and giving back

Warren and Rebecca now use their platform to show other 9-to-5 workers how to take cheap holidays without using annual leave, finding flights that depart and return at convenient times. Warren noted: "It started out as another place to put our own photos and videos and now it's growing and getting a little bit more serious. I see it as my main job, really."

The couple also plan to give back, with Warren set to visit Uganda this month to donate clothes and shoes to a local orphanage while exploring the African jungle. He said: "It's been something that's been on my mind for a while. To give back in some way shape or form. Now that I get the chance to finally do it, that'd be awesome."

At Christmas, the couple plan to travel to Antarctica, which would complete their goal of visiting all seven continents.
