Chester Christmas Market: A 450-Item Wonder That Makes the Trip Worthwhile

Chester's Christmas market, hailed as one of the UK's premier festive destinations, lived up to its reputation this November. A 40-minute train ride from Liverpool Central, followed by a 15-minute walk, led to a vibrant scene of live music and fairy lights. The market, open until 22 December, features 80 traders offering handmade crafts, jewellery, accessories, and festive food and drink.

Despite a power cut that delayed hot food stalls and forced cash-only transactions until around 2pm, the market offered culinary highlights. Mrs B's Bakehouse, tucked near the cathedral, accepted card payments and served a festive roll (£4.50) packed with pork, stuffing, bacon, and cranberry. The flaky pastry and balanced filling impressed, though a £7 chilli con carne jacket potato from the North Pole stall fell short, likely due to early teething issues.

For a complete experience, a hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream cost £6. The market's 450 items, from £20 silver bangles to artisan candles, ensure a worthwhile visit. Despite the power cut, the festive atmosphere and unique offerings make Chester's market a must-see.
