A travel journalist who has visited all five Center Parcs locations in the UK has named Elveden Forest in Suffolk as the worst, scoring it just 39 out of 60. Amanda Hyde of The Telegraph criticised the lodges, describing them as 'old' and 'unkept', with issues such as rotting window frames, a broken bath plug, and a dirty toilet.
Despite its forest setting and attractions like the longest zip-wire in the UK and a flume ride, Hyde noted constant traffic noise from the nearby A11. She said: 'Just don’t imagine it feels entirely bucolic – there’s a constant roar from the nearby A11.' The lodges scored only 5/10, while the pool, spa, and food each received 7/10.
However, some guests gave positive reviews on TripAdvisor. Peter F awarded five stars, praising the treehouse and activities, though he noted restaurants were 'overpriced, poor quality and average service'. Another guest who stayed in a 'New Style' lodge reported it was 'extremely tired and desperately in need of upgrading'.
In contrast, Longleat Forest in Wiltshire was ranked the best with 47/60. Hyde praised its stunning nature, including Giant Redwood trees, and the free land train. She said it had 'something for everyone'. TripAdvisor reviews were mixed, with Julie F calling it 'fantastic', while Robert S noted tired accommodation and cleanliness issues.
Center Parcs prices can reach £1,649 for a four-night stay in a basic two-bedroom lodge during school summer holidays, raising questions about value for money.
