Brussels has been named the perfect city to reach by train for older travellers, according to new research from global travel booking site Omio. The Belgian capital is just 125 minutes from London on the Eurostar, and once there, visitors can explore on foot without needing taxis or a hire car.
Walkable city with UNESCO charm
The train arrives in the heart of the city, making it easy for pensioners to explore at their own pace. A 23-minute walk from the station leads to the Grand Place, a UNESCO World Heritage site surrounded by ornate buildings dating back to the 17th century.
One TripAdvisor visitor described the square: "The night view is even more enchanting and captivating, holding your gaze for a long time. Fantastic buildings, with stunning architecture."
Chocolate and culture nearby
Five minutes from the station is the Hill of the Arts, known for its geometric garden and panoramic city views, though it can get busy at sunset. Another five-minute walk brings visitors to Sablon, a neighbourhood famed for its chocolatiers and the triangular Place du Grand Sablon, lined with 16th to 18th-century mansions, cafes, and gourmet chocolate shops.
