A British holidaymaker has been found dead in a hotel swimming pool on the Spanish island of Majorca. The 72-year-old man was discovered face down in the water at the resort in S'llot on Tuesday morning.
The alarm was raised at 8.37am, according to emergency medical organisation SAMU, who confirmed the victim was pulled from the pool and basic resuscitation manoeuvres were performed until ambulances arrived. Despite efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
An advanced life-support ambulance and an air ambulance were dispatched to the hotel, which is located 15 minutes from the Love Island villa in Sant Llorenç des Cardassar. Local police have launched an investigation, though no further details have been released.
The incident follows a string of recent tragedies involving British tourists abroad. Last September, a British teenage girl was critically injured after falling from a first-floor hotel in the same area. Earlier this month, Scottish grandmother Angela McTier collapsed and died at Alicante airport after suffering a burst varicose vein.
Separately, two Britons died in Greece this month: a 75-year-old man pulled from the sea during a boat trip in Kefalonia, and a 68-year-old found unconscious in the water near Rhodes in June.
