British Teenager Found Dead After Night Out in Malia, Crete

A 17-year-old British teenager has been found dead in the Greek resort of Malia, Crete, after suffering serious head injuries. Police believe he fell and hit his head, and his death is not being treated as suspicious.

The teenager, identified by friends as Andre Young from Saffron Walden, Essex, was reported missing after a night out on Tuesday. His body was discovered on a building site at the edge of the resort on Wednesday morning. His parents have flown to Crete to identify the body.

The Foreign Office is liaising with Greek authorities as police investigate. Another tourist, 21-year-old Bethany Billings, told the Mirror she saw Young staggering up the street, adding: 'He knew he'd had enough [to drink], and wanted to go home.'

A Facebook tribute page has been joined by more than 200 people, including former schoolfriends. Jay Pledger, of Saffron Walden County High School, wrote: 'You will be forever remembered. Maths classes were no good without you mate. R.I.P. x x.'

The incident comes amid controversy over the behaviour of young British holidaymakers in the Greek islands, with some locals calling for increased police patrols and a ban on cheap drinks promotions. Recent incidents in Malia include a bar fight last month and an attack where a woman set fire to a British man, Stuart Feltham, who suffered second-degree burns.
