A holiday tragedy has unfolded at Gran Canaria Airport after a 53-year-old British man fell to his death from a multi-storey car park on Monday.
Emergency services rushed to the scene following reports of a fall from a significant height within the airport's parking facility. Despite their efforts, the man, whose identity has not been released, could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Local reports indicate the victim plummeted approximately 30 feet, suffering catastrophic injuries from the multi-storey car park plunge. The exact circumstances leading to the fall remain unclear and are now the subject of an investigation by local authorities.
Airport Operations Unaffected
The incident occurred in a section of the car park separate from main passenger routes, meaning airport operations continued without significant disruption. However, the area was cordoned off by police for forensic examination.
A spokesperson for the local emergency services confirmed they received a distress call and dispatched multiple units, including medical personnel. "Everything possible was done to try to save the man's life," the spokesperson stated.
Foreign Office Providing Support
The UK Foreign Office has confirmed it is supporting the family of the deceased British national during this devastating time. A statement read: "We are in contact with the local authorities following the death of a British man in Gran Canaria and are providing support to his family."
This incident serves as a sobering reminder of safety concerns in multi-level infrastructure frequently used by tourists. An investigation continues to determine whether this was a tragic accident or something more deliberate.
