A 17-year-old British boy has been declared brain dead following a fall from a hotel balcony in Athens, Greece. The incident occurred at around 5am, and emergency services transported him to Athens' Red Cross Hospital, where doctors determined he suffered unsurvivable brain injuries.
Local police are investigating the circumstances of the fall. A 37-year-old kiosk employee has been arrested on charges of fatal endangerment and violations of laws regulating the sale of alcohol and tobacco to minors. Police allege the employee sold alcohol to the teenager after he presented a fraudulent driver's license as proof of age.
The teenager was on holiday in Greece with his family. An investigator told The Sun: "It's too early to say exactly what happened. What we do know is that he fell from the first floor of the hotel and that alcohol had been consumed."
In a separate incident, a 50-year-old British woman suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a falling rock at Nydri Waterfalls on the island of Lefkada. She was rescued by firefighters and taken to hospital, where she underwent surgery and remains in critical condition.
