An American tourist visiting London has been left 'mind blown' after discovering how affordable groceries are in UK supermarkets. Amelia, who runs the YouTube channel Amelia And JP Abroad with her partner JP, shared her surprise in a video titled 'Yanks in England! What surprised us the most!'.
Amelia said: 'The groceries are so affordable here. I was pretty shocked by that, although I shouldn't be because the groceries are so affordable once you're outside of the United States.' She noted that UK prices were 'almost 24 per cent lower' than in the US, but believes the difference is even greater.
The vlogger added: 'I think the prices are even higher in the States, at least they were when I went shopping with my family. It's just blowing my mind about how cheap the groceries are here. You can get everything you need and you get really good quality.'
This comes despite the UK's ongoing cost of living crisis, with a survey by Ipsos showing that 75 per cent of Londoners viewed the cost of living as their top worry in 2024. Meanwhile, US inflation jumped to 3 per cent in January, partly driven by higher egg and energy prices.
Amelia and JP previously moved from the US to Ecuador due to high living costs, citing healthcare expenses and mortgage payments as factors that forced them to sell their house.
