Scotland has been jokingly labelled the worst country in the world in a satirical list that highlights its so-called flaws, from allegedly ugly landscapes to a lack of famous people.
Scenery and Wildlife Called Into Question
The list begins by claiming Scotland is "so ugly," pointing to landmarks such as the Old Man of Storr on the Isle of Skye. It adds there is "nothing striking" about the landscapes, including a sunrise over the Grampian Mountains.
Winter is described as "awful," with a train passing over the Glenfinnan Viaduct, and it suggests the further north you go, the worse it gets, referencing Loch Cluanie in the Scottish Highlands. Summer beaches like Luskentyre are said not to resemble the Caribbean at all.
Wildlife is also dismissed, despite featuring a stag in its natural Highlands habitat and a bottlenose dolphin in the Moray Firth.
History, Culture, and Famous Faces
The piece claims there is no history, showcasing Kilchurn Castle on Loch Awe, and no cultural events, despite the Braemar Gathering. It says no one famous ever comes to Scotland, yet includes a photo of Beyoncé performing at Hampden Park.
It also claims no famous artists were ever discovered here, ignoring that Oasis were discovered by Creation Records boss Alan McGee when they played at King Tut's in 1993. Big cities like Edinburgh are called boring, and smaller towns like North Berwick are dismissed with a yawn.
Food, Drink, and Entertainment
Scottish food is described as disgusting, with a full Scottish breakfast pictured, and drinks are said to be nothing to write home about, despite the iconic Irn-Bru. The list claims Scots do not know how to party, showing fans at T In The Park, or have a laugh, featuring Frankie Boyle performing stand-up.
It says nobody famous has ever come from Scotland, despite Ewan McGregor and David Tennant posing at the 2025 BAFTA Scotland Awards. It also claims nothing useful was invented, ignoring Alexander Graham Bell, who invented the telephone and was born and raised in Scotland.
Songs, Fashion, and Sports
The list says no good songs were written, despite Auld Lang Syne being sung globally on New Year's Eve, and claims Scots have zero fashion sense, despite a Dior show at Drummond Castle in Crieff. It adds other countries hate Scotland, referencing the Tartan Army in Boston during the 2026 World Cup.
It claims Scots are terrible at sports, despite Andy Murray's 46 ATP Tour singles titles, and bad at dancing, despite sword dancing being a traditional Highland Games event. It also says Scots cannot write books, despite author Douglas Stuart's award-winning works like Shuggie Bain and Young Mungo.
The list concludes that Scotland is just a terrible place to live, showing the Skye Nest Point lighthouse, and warns not to trust anyone who says they like it, featuring a Scottish highland cow.
