The prestigious Michelin Guide has welcomed twenty-two new British restaurants to its ranks in its latest monthly update. The announcement, made in December 2025, highlights a diverse range of dining establishments across the United Kingdom that have caught the attention of the guide's famously anonymous inspectors.
A Celebration of Culinary Diversity
The newly featured venues showcase the breadth of the UK's gastronomic scene. Margaret's in Cambridge was commended for pairing "simplicity with elegance," while The Crown in Bray earned praise for its "no-nonsense, big-flavoured dishes." In Royal Leamington Spa, The Warwick at Mallory Court impressed with its "exacting presentation and bold flavours." London's beloved Singburi was highlighted for its "exuberance, fun and well-priced appeal," bringing cult Thai flavours to the fore.
The selection extends far beyond the capital, underscoring a nationwide trend of excellence. Beau in Belfast was noted for its "concise menu of produce-led dishes," and LOMA by Graeme Cheevers at Loch Lomond's Cameron House hotel represents Scottish talent. Shwen Shwen, a West African restaurant in Sevenoaks, was described as "colourful, unfussy and joyous." Other notable inclusions span from Kallos Cafe & Wine Bar in Salford to Sandro's in Lyme Regis.
What Guide Inclusion Means for Restaurants
It is crucial to distinguish between being listed in the Michelin Guide and being awarded a Michelin star. Inclusion in the guide itself is a significant achievement, indicating that a restaurant has been identified by Michelin's anonymous inspectors as being regionally notable and worthy of a special recommendation. Inspectors assess venues based on five key criteria: the quality of ingredients, mastery of flavour and cooking techniques, the personality of the chef in the cuisine, value for money, and consistency between visits.
While new additions to the guide are announced monthly, the coveted Michelin stars are awarded annually. This latest update follows Michelin's major inaugural selection for the American South, which featured 228 restaurants. Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guide, noted the "rich blend of cultural influences" found in that region's cuisine, a sentiment that also reflects the diverse UK list.
