Tottenham's Next Transfer After Tonali: £40m Rashford Raid

Tottenham Hotspur are pushing to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United after seeing an opening bid rejected, and could follow that up with a surprise raid on Manchester United for Marcus Rashford, according to reports.

Tonali Bid Rejected, Improved Offer Expected

Tottenham made an opening bid worth around £80 million for the Italy international over the weekend, but the offer was immediately rejected by Newcastle. The Magpies are reportedly looking for closer to £100 million to sanction Tonali's exit before the start of next season.

Tottenham are expected to return to the table with an improved offer in the coming days, with club chiefs eager to get a deal done. The north Londoners have already made a fast start to the summer transfer window, having signed Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers before landing Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke in a £52 million deal.

Rashford Emerges as Surprise Target

Adding more firepower is believed to be another priority for Spurs, given that Tottenham only scored 48 league goals over the course of last season. Their search has reportedly led them to Marcus Rashford, who is widely expected to leave Manchester United this summer after spending last season on loan at Barcelona.

According to the i, the England international has emerged as a target for Tottenham, although it could be difficult to secure his signature. That's because they aren't willing to pay his £40 million release clause and will instead look to negotiate a lower price in talks with United.

Rashford Prefers Move Abroad

The report adds that Rashford currently doesn't want to join another Premier League club, with the 28-year-old favouring a move abroad. He was keen to stay at Barcelona following the end of his loan spell, but the Catalan giants decided not to activate his £26 million purchase clause before it expired.

It's claimed that Bayern Munich have also been keeping tabs on Rashford and could offer him the chance to resume his career outside of England. If no such opportunity arrives, the forward is reportedly open to staying at United and trying to prove himself under Michael Carrick next season.
