The Tesla Model Y was the UK's best-selling car in June 2026, with 6,765 new registrations, according to data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). The electric SUV, priced from £41,990, outsold all other models in a bumper month for the American automaker.
Model Y Leads UK Car Sales
The Model Y, Tesla's more family-oriented offering compared to the sportier Model 3, secured the top spot with 6,765 units sold. It was followed by the Tesla Model 3 with 5,408 registrations, while the Ford Puma took third place with 5,284 cars leaving forecourts.
The latest Model Y, known as the 'Juniper' refresh, launched last year and features a comprehensive redesign. Tesla improved aerodynamics by reducing the drag coefficient from 0.23 to 0.22 through optimised grille shutters, a sculpted lower fascia, and an updated rear diffuser. A 1.6-inch rear extension helps detach airflow, boosting range by around 3%.
Interior and Range Upgrades
The refreshed Model Y includes an upgraded interior with a larger 16-inch infotainment screen and better sound insulation. Built at Tesla's European gigafactory in Berlin, the 'Juniper' starts at over £41,000.
Buyers can choose from several variants. The RWD Standard Range offers up to 314 miles (WLTP) for £41,990, with a top speed of 125mph and 0-62mph in 7.2 seconds. The Premium AWD model provides up to 360 miles of range at £51,990, achieving 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds. Finance deals range from £299 to £405 per month.
EV Market Momentum
The strong June performance underscores the growing popularity of electric vehicles in the UK. Tesla's dominance reflects both the Model Y's appeal and the broader shift toward electrification. With competitive pricing and advanced features, the Model Y continues to lead the market.
