Steur Impresses in First Newcastle Training Session

Sean Steur made a positive first impression during his first training session with Newcastle United on Tuesday afternoon at the KNOX training centre. The 18-year-old midfielder, who joined from Ajax last week, showcased his technical ability and quickly won over his new teammates.

Steur's Eye-Catching Pass

In footage released by Newcastle's media team, Steur was seen addressing his new teammates in a speech before training. He looked comfortable on the ball, even selling Lewis Hall a dummy by dropping his shoulder. However, it was a pass to Jacob Murphy in a small-sided game that stood out. Receiving the ball from Joelinton, Steur split the defence with an incisive pass into the penalty area, allowing Murphy to cut the ball back for Matheos Ferreira to score past Ewen Jaouen.

Murphy immediately turned to Steur, shouting "Sean, Sean," and clenching his fists in appreciation. Harvey Barnes also congratulated the youngster after his team won the game, saying, "Start as you mean to go on, eh? First game, first photo for Sean. Love it."

High Expectations

Dutch football expert Michael Bell, editor of Football Oranje, told Chronicle Live that Steur is 'a technically brilliant midfielder, who can play deeper or in the eight. He is comfortable receiving the ball in tight spaces and can progress it through dribbling forward. He has a real eye for a pass.'

Steur himself said after the session: "Yeah, really good. A nice group of guys. A really nice feeling."

Next Steps

Newcastle will face Darlington in a behind-closed-doors friendly this weekend, where Steur is expected to get his first action for the club. Fans will have their first chance to see him when Newcastle take on Gateshead at the Gateshead International Stadium next weekend.
