Nvidia Launches ‘Superchip’ to Bring AI Power to Windows PCs

Nvidia has announced a new chip designed to bring artificial intelligence capabilities to laptops and desktop computers, potentially replacing traditional mouse and keyboard interactions. The RTX Spark chip, unveiled at the Computex conference in Taiwan, will be available later this year and used by manufacturers including Dell, Lenovo, Asus and HP, paired with Microsoft Windows.

The chip, developed in collaboration with Taiwan's MediaTek, combines a microprocessor and graphics chip to run AI agents locally rather than relying on cloud computing. Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang said the chip would “reinvent the PC” for the AI era, allowing agents to navigate computers autonomously. He described the move as reimagining the PC “for the first time in 40 years”.

Analysts noted that Nvidia’s foray into consumer PCs opens a new business line but will take time to develop. Neil Shah of Counterpoint Research compared the launch to the advent of the iPhone, ChatGPT and DeepSeek, predicting that private edge AI agents would become pivotal in homes. Susannah Streeter of Wealth Club called it a “bold attempt” to extend Nvidia’s dominance beyond datacentres, though she said investors would view it as a long-term opportunity.

Nvidia also introduced its Vera central processing unit, designed for AI agents and early adopters including OpenAI, Anthropic and SpaceX. Meanwhile, Intel plans to ship a new AI chip later this year using cheaper memory and cooling technology, and announced a graphics processing unit codenamed Crescent Island, “purpose-built for this upcoming AI generation of agents”.

Addressing fears that AI will destroy jobs, Huang dismissed the notion as “complete nonsense”, arguing that AI would increase hiring by making workers more productive. Separately, Arm chief executive Rene Haas is in line for a pay package worth over $1bn by 2031 if he meets targets to turn the firm into the UK’s first trillion-dollar company.
