Murderer's Home for Sale with Warning to Buyers About Past Owners
Murderer's Home for Sale with Warning to Buyers

The former home of two men jailed for the murder and abuse of toddler Preston Davey has been listed for sale, with prospective buyers warned about the property's history. Jamie Varley and John McGowan-Fazakerley purchased the five-bedroom detached house in Chandlers Way, Grimsargh, Lancashire, just 22 days after being arrested in connection with Preston's death.

Property Listed at Reduced Price

The home is now on the market for £370,000, a significant reduction from the £450,000 the couple paid. It is listed for an online auction closing on July 31, 2026. The estate agent's description calls it an "immaculate detached property with stunning countryside views" and an "ideal opportunity for families." However, the listing includes a transparency note about the vendors' convictions.

Warning to Buyers

The listing states: "The vendor is currently serving a custodial sentence following conviction for offences involving [a minor]. It is understood that the offences were not committed at the property. This information is being provided in the interests of transparency and to assist prospective purchasers in making an informed decision."

Details of the Case

Preston Davey was placed with the couple as a prospective adoptive child in March 2023. A post-mortem examination revealed he had sustained around 40 injuries. Prosecutors described the case as one of the most shocking they had encountered, with Preston enduring a sustained campaign of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse in the final months of his life.

Varley was convicted of murder, sexual offences, causing grievous bodily harm, cruelty, and indecent image offences. He received a whole life order. McGowan-Fazakerley was found guilty of causing or allowing the death of a child, cruelty, and sexual assault, and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Neighbours Unaware

After moving in, neighbours said they had no idea of the couple's criminal background. The truth emerged when police executed a warrant at the property in June 2024 and charged both men. The trial at Preston Crown Court lasted more than seven weeks.
