Work is underway to transform Jalou, a popular bar in Newcastle city centre, with staff teasing a 'new chapter' for the venue. The bar, located next to Central Station, has been a fixture of the city's nightlife since it opened in 2012 in the premises formerly occupied by Destination.
Celebrity Spotting and a New Look
Over the years, Jalou has attracted both locals and famous visitors, including Katie Price, who partied there with Geordie Shore cast members, and musicians such as Ne-Yo and Sean Paul, along with MOBO Award nominees, after their performances at the nearby Utilita Arena.
The bar's aesthetic has remained unchanged for some time, but renovations are now underway on Neville Street. Staff shared a first look at the work on Instagram on Tuesday, writing: 'Glow up pending. New look. New energy. Same vibes.'
Venue Updates and Neighbouring Changes
In the post, they added: 'We're working behind the scenes on some serious venue updates, and we can't wait to show you. A new chapter is coming sooner than you think.' Jalou signed off by telling followers to 'stay tuned' for further updates.
Just across the road, Liberty House has undergone a significant transformation this year, becoming the Irish party bar Liberty Tavern, while another nearby bar, The Head of Steam, is on the market.
