A naked man jumped onto the tracks at Earl's Court Tube station in west London during the morning rush hour, causing widespread disruption for tens of thousands of commuters. The station was evacuated and shut down as British Transport Police dealt with the incident.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing the man outside the station before he ran through the ticket gates and onto a District line platform. He then jumped onto the tracks and remained there until police arrived. Photos on social media showed the man lying on his back on the tracks.
Passengers expressed frustration on Twitter, with one describing the evacuation as a 'bad judgement call' and suggesting staff could have removed the man from the tracks. Another user reported a naked man running through the tunnels. An air ambulance was seen landing near the station.
British Transport Police were called at 8.50am to reports of concerns for a person's welfare. Officers attended with London Ambulance Service paramedics, and the person was taken to a place of safety. The incident added to severe delays across the Tube network, including a fatal collision at Chiswick Park station and suspensions on the Piccadilly, Jubilee, and Central lines.
