Monzo is set to launch its mobile phone service, Monzo Mobile, in summer 2026, offering customers flexible eSIM-only plans with potential discounts of up to 30% over time. The digital bank, which serves over 15 million personal and business customers, confirmed the launch timeline and details of the new service.
Plan Details and Eligibility
Monzo Mobile will provide three flexible eSIM-only plans featuring 5G data speeds, 99% UK coverage, and unlimited calls and texts. Customers can check coverage in their area before signing up. To be eligible, users must have a Monzo current account and keep it open to maintain the mobile plan. The service is available to UK residents aged 18 and over, with terms and conditions applying.
Pricing and Discounts
Monzo boasts “a competitive price up front, then 5% off each year,” allowing customers to get “up to 30% off over time.” The bank emphasises “no hidden fees” and “no surprise charges.” A waiting list is already open for interested customers.
International Roaming
Some plans include roaming in over 20 destinations, such as Austria, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Greece, Malta, Netherlands, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Morocco, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, and the United States. Monzo notes that the list may change in the future but represents what customers can expect this summer.
What is an eSIM?
Monzo explains that an eSIM is a SIM built into the phone, activated by downloading a plan directly to the device. It works like a regular SIM for calls, texts, and data, but requires no physical card. Most phones made after 2020 support eSIM, and Monzo will check compatibility during sign-up. Customers can use both an eSIM and a physical SIM simultaneously, allowing them to keep their current provider while trying Monzo Mobile. If switching to a new phone, the eSIM can be reinstalled via the Monzo app.
