Manchester United have identified West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville as their primary target to strengthen the forward line, according to Sky Sports. The club has already held initial talks with the Hammers over a potential move for the Netherlands international, as they push ahead with a busy summer transfer window under manager Michael Carrick.
United Close to Double Midfield Signing
United have agreed a £50 million deal to sign Andrey Santos from Chelsea, who is expected to become the first new addition since Carrick was appointed permanent manager. Atalanta star Ederson is also set to join Old Trafford for £35 million, with a potential £3.8 million in add-ons, bringing the total for both midfielders to around £85 million.
The Santos deal has been described as 'unfortunate' for Chelsea, while Ederson's arrival bolsters United's midfield options significantly. Both players are Brazilian, adding a South American flair to the squad.
Summerville Emerges as Top Forward Target
Summerville's future at West Ham has been uncertain since the club's relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season. The 24-year-old winger is currently on summer break after representing the Netherlands at the World Cup, where they were eliminated by Morocco in the round of 32.
United have shown interest in Summerville for some time, but now face competition from Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, who have also joined the race. It has been suggested that United could step up their pursuit once the Santos and Ederson deals are completed.
Funding and Potential Fee
The move for Summerville could be funded by the sale of Marcus Rashford, according to reports. West Ham are reportedly demanding around £50 million for the winger this summer. The Hammers have already sanctioned one major exit following their relegation, with Mateus Fernandes moving to Tottenham Hotspur for a fee believed to be around £85 million.
United's transfer activity signals a significant overhaul under Carrick, as they aim to rebuild after a disappointing season. The club is also reportedly looking at other targets, but Summerville remains the 'number one' priority for the forward line.
