William 'can't imagine' repairing rift with Harry, source says

A source close to the Prince of Wales has said there "isn't a world right now" in which the future King "can imagine repairing the relationship with his brother", following Prince Harry's latest tell-all interview.

The comments on the estranged brothers' rift came after the Duke of Sussex spoke to GQ about how "scars stick around forever" and emphasised that "the most important thing is to reconcile" with his brother, Prince William, and his father, King Charles.

Source speaks out on royal rift

The source close to Prince William told the Daily Mirror: "There isn't a world right now where the Prince of Wales can imagine repairing the relationship with his brother. He remains deeply hurt over the many things the Duke of Sussex has said publicly about him and other family members."

The source added: "Look at what the family is doing just this week: a significantly important State Visit, commemorating the tragedy that occurred in Aberfan 60 years ago, and preparations being made for major royal tours in the immediate future.

"This is what matters to the Prince and Princess of Wales, and the King and Queen - and that certainly doesn't include responding to the Duke of Sussex every time he pops up doing yet another interview."

Harry's latest comments

The damning new comments follow years of attacks by Prince Harry on his family in the form of his autobiography, Spare, various explosive tell-all interviews on TV and quips at paid speaking events.

While a spokesperson for the Duke clarified that Harry's remark that "some people don't want it to work out" was general and "absolutely not intended as a swipe" at his father or brother, it is the latest in a long line of public statements Harry has made about his situation.

Speaking in his latest interview, Harry was asked whether he grieves the relationship he once had with his family. He told GQ: "Yes, of course. I think from a family perspective, again, another massively relatable issue for so many people: sibling disagreements, broken relationships between kids and their parents, kids and one parent.

"That continues to come up with me all the time with the people I speak to, so I know how relatable it is. People may look at us and go, 'How are you gonna work it out?' Maybe that will help me work my stuff out."

State visit continues

Harry added: "Some people don't want it to work out. I want it to work out. With everything else that's going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile—that's the key point. [...] Scars stick around forever.

"But what your perception is, and what your mindset is to those things that have happened, letting go of the past. That's something that I would encourage everybody to do: If there's certain things from the past that are still affecting you every day, that's harder to let go of. But, for me, there's enough drama in the world and enough drama in people's lives to continue with issues with family."

Harry released his interview while King Charles and Queen Camilla were hosting the Sultan of Oman for an important state visit at Windsor Castle. The Prince and Princess of Wales were also in attendance and had major roles to carry out.
