Arsenal open to selling Lewis-Skelly
According to football.london, Arsenal are open to selling the 19-year-old, with Chelsea also given the chance to sign him. Both clubs admire the player, but it remains unclear if either will pursue a deal.
Lewis-Skelly signed a new five-year contract in June 2025, yet United's interest persisted after his limited appearances last season until the final months. His performances in key games suggested Arsenal wanted to keep him, but that may no longer be the case.
United's transfer priorities
Michael Carrick is seeking another midfielder and a new left-back before the transfer window closes. Lewis-Skelly, who can play both roles, is seen as a potential fit. Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos have already arrived, with a third signing pursued. Newcastle's Lewis Hall was the primary left-back target, but he is not available for transfer.
An ambitious swap deal could be approved given Arsenal's need for a left winger, with Marcus Rashford's future uncertain. Rashford returned to Carrington and joined United's squad in Dublin, making a stay more likely, though an exit remains possible.
Left-back alternatives and Chelsea interest
Strengthening at left-back is a priority, with Jorge Salinas of Racing Santander an alternative to Hall. United are willing to pay his asking price, unlike Barcelona.
United have already signed Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi from Arsenal's academy, and Lewis-Skelly could become the third in a few years. From Chelsea's perspective, a lucrative proposal would be hard for Arsenal to turn down, as would a sizeable United bid.
At Old Trafford, Lewis-Skelly would still play midfield but more regularly in his favoured position under Xabi Alonso. Chelsea have invested heavily in Morgan Rogers, but another big fee could pave the way for Enzo Fernandez's departure, with Real Madrid and Manchester City interested.
Lewis-Skelly has started all of Arsenal's pre-season games as a defensive midfielder, with Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Merino unavailable. His displays have been far from perfect, despite excelling in the left eight role late last season, which secured a starting place in the Champions League final.
