Liverpool have taken a significant step towards signing Yan Diomande, as reports indicate the club is prepared to meet RB Leipzig's €100 million (£86.8 million) valuation for the 19-year-old winger. According to The Athletic, Liverpool are now in the driving seat to secure the forward's signature, although Paris Saint-Germain remain a potential rival.
Diomande Impresses at World Cup
The Ivorian teenager is currently representing his country at the World Cup, where he played the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 victory over Ecuador. Manchester United's Amad came off the bench to score the winner. Diomande is expected to face Germany this weekend, lining up against potential future teammate Florian Wirtz.
Liverpool's Summer Spending
Should the deal go through, Diomande would become Liverpool's second summer signing, following the £34.5 million acquisition of Victor Munoz from Osasuna. Munoz signed a six-year contract, subject to a work permit and international clearance.
Newcastle had initially been front-runners for Munoz, but Liverpool hijacked the transfer by triggering his release clause. Liverpool continue to explore alternative options in case the Diomande deal falls through.
