Google has confirmed it will scrap two long-standing Gmail features by January 2027, affecting users who rely on the platform to manage multiple email accounts.
Send As Feature to End
The "Send as" feature, which allows users to send emails from third-party accounts such as Yahoo, Outlook and Hotmail directly through Gmail, will be discontinued. Google has set January 2027 as the deadline for this change, citing efforts to keep Gmail "secure, smart, and easy-to-use" while reducing maintenance for older features.
"You will no longer be able to send mail from third-party email accounts in Gmail on the web or in the Gmail mobile apps," the company confirmed.
Gmailify Also Being Removed
Google also plans to shut down Gmailify, an extension that lets people with third-party email accounts use Gmail's spam protection and inbox organisation features. Gmailify currently supports accounts from Yahoo, AOL, Outlook and Hotmail, but it will also disappear in January 2027.
Google has outlined a timeline for the changes: in the autumn, it will begin notifying affected users, and the "Send as" feature will enter its notice period. At the end of the year, the transition period begins, during which "Send as", Gmailify and POP will continue to work, although Google may restrict new configurations. Users are encouraged to make any necessary changes during this period.

In January 2027, the changes become permanent, with Google fully removing "Send as" for third-party accounts, Gmailify and POP. For anyone who has relied on Gmail as a central hub for several different email accounts, it could mean making some changes before the deadline arrives.
