Chelsea have completed the signing of highly-rated teenager Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP, with the 19-year-old expressing his delight at joining the Blues. The transfer, reportedly worth around £40 million, was announced on Wednesday after Chelsea won the race against Manchester United last year.
Quenda's Contract and Development
Standard Sport understands that Quenda has signed a contract keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2034. He spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Sporting to continue his first-team development, scoring six goals and providing nine assists. The versatile winger, capable of playing on either flank, could also be used as a wing-back under new manager Xabi Alonso.
Player's Reaction
Speaking about his move, Quenda said: “It feels great to be here. Chelsea is a great team and I am excited to play here at Stamford Bridge. The club has shown faith in players like me and I am proud to be here, proud to be part of this club. I am excited to work with my team-mates and the manager, Xabi Alonso. I'm a very hard-working young person and I like to help my team. I want to be someone known for having the right mentality to help my team-mates and who does their best for the club to win trophies.”
Other Transfers
Quenda is Chelsea's second signing of the summer, following Marco Palestra. Meanwhile, the club have agreed to sell Andrey Santos to Manchester United for £48 million plus an additional £2 million in easily achievable add-ons. A medical is being arranged for the Brazilian midfielder as he prepares to move to Old Trafford.
