Elixir to Open in Queen Square, Boosting Liverpool's Dining Scene

The team behind a new mystery restaurant in Liverpool's Queen Square has been revealed as Elixir, an established venue from Oxton Village, Wirral. The restaurant aims to revitalise the area, with a spokesperson stating in a video: "Soon, this square will be booming. We're going to bring this square back to life and restore its vibrancy."

New Venue Details

Elixir will seat more than 80 guests and feature the first Laurent-Perrier Champagne garden in the North West. Inside, a baby grand piano, open windows, live entertainment, and singers are planned. The premises at Queen Square is currently undergoing refurbishment and is one of the few units ready for a new business.

Queen Square's Tapas History

Queen Square has previously hosted tapas restaurants. In 2021, Tapas Revolution opened a 132-seat venue with a Spanish-style terrace for over 100 diners, but it has since closed. Before that, the site housed La Tasca, which was rebranded as Tapas Revolution by the Spanish Restaurant Group.

Recent Changes in the Area

The square has seen other changes: the longstanding Nando's relocated to a larger premises across the street, and rock band Enter Shikari held a surprise meet-and-greet at Paper Cup coffee house.

Thriving Tapas Scene in Liverpool

Tapas concepts are flourishing across the city. In March last year, family-run So Salsa opened its fourth location on Bold Street, taking over the former Smiffy's costume store. So Salsa first launched in 2010 in Crosby and now operates in Blackstock Market and on Castle Street. It is part of the 23 Group, which also owns Tree House and Rock Salt restaurants in Crosby. So Salsa expanded into Liverpool in 2022, serving Spanish-inspired small plates, drinks, and cocktails.

Tree House Stays Open

Meanwhile, The Tree House in Crosby, which initially announced plans to close in February, decided to remain open due to an overwhelming surge in customer support. Owner Andy Peters said: "We are in no rush to sell. We want to ensure the venue is passed into the right hands rather than simply closing the doors prematurely." The family-run venue on Coronation Road saw a massive spike in bookings after the closure news, prompting the owners to extend its final chapter to allow loyal patrons more time to enjoy the "classics menu."
