EasyJet and Ryanair have issued updates for passengers ahead of a general strike in Portugal on Wednesday, June 3. The strike is expected to cause disruption across the country, with around 500 flights potentially affected.
EasyJet has warned that its services may be disrupted due to the strike. A spokesperson said: 'Due to a national strike in Portugal on 3 June, like all airlines operating to and from the country we can expect some disruption to our flying programme. We will be doing all we can to minimise the impact of the strike action and will contact customers directly with their options if their flights are affected.'
Ryanair, however, has stated it will operate as normal. Minimum service levels have been set for the airline by order of the Minister for Infrastructure and Housing, requiring staff to report for duty to ensure certain connections.
TAP Air Portugal plans to operate at least 79 flights and is rebooking travel options for affected passengers. Air Europa has reportedly cancelled all flights between Madrid and Lisbon and Porto.
The strike is in protest at labour reforms planned by the Portuguese government. It is the second general strike in the nation in recent months. Tram services in Porto are also expected to be affected.
