Manchester United's new signing Cristian Orozco has declared that his strengths are his "physicality and technique" after completing his move to the club. The Colombian teenager's transfer was officially confirmed on Monday, which coincided with his 18th birthday.
Deal Agreed Nine Months Ago
United reached an agreement with Fortaleza CEIF to sign Orozco nine months ago, but the deal stipulated that he would join in the summer transfer window once he turned 18. The Reds have brought in the midfielder because they believe he has the potential to break into the first team in the future.
Academy Start and Development Plan
Orozco has begun his time at Manchester United by joining the academy setup. Coaches will assess him before deciding on his next steps, with the most likely outcome being that he plays for the Under-21s this season. The club intends to be patient with Orozco as he adapts to his new environment. This approach mirrors similar signings made over the past 18 months, including Sekou Kone from Mali and Diego Leon from Paraguay.
Orozco on His Qualities
Speaking to ESPN Colombia about his transfer, Orozco outlined what fans can expect. "I know my strengths are my physicality and my technique," he said. "I have those qualities and, with the gift God gave me, I don't think it will be too difficult. But everything is about adapting. I'm very young and that's what I'll need to do."
English Lessons and Adaptation
United will provide English lessons to help Orozco settle in. Reflecting on his visit to Carrington in December, he said: "I expect to learn a lot of English. When I was there, I realised just how important it is." He added: "I want to arrive and learn as quickly as possible. That's what's required so I can show my level and everything I'm capable of. I want to adapt to everything that comes my way as quickly as possible."
Winter Visit to Manchester
Orozco was welcomed to Manchester during the winter and given a tour of Carrington and Old Trafford. The trip also included a taste of training sessions with United's academy teams.
Part of Ineos Strategy
The deal for Orozco is the latest in a string of transfers for talented young players with high potential, a strategy that Ineos implemented after taking control of the club's football operations. This approach focuses on acquiring promising youngsters early to develop them within the club's system.
