I Tested the £70 Portable Cooler Called Better Than Shark and Dyson
£70 Portable Cooler Called Better Than Shark and Dyson: Review

Like many Brits, the warmer temperatures are starting to make everyday life uncomfortable, with nights feeling especially heavy and sleep harder to come by. At my age, it has also brought on those familiar hot flushes, which seem to just get worse when the temperature rises.

Luckily enough, I have found some much-needed relief in the form of a portable cordless air circulator that I have been moving with me around the house. It is light, easy to move from room to room, and while it may not look very exciting, it is one of my favourite things right now.

MeacoFan Sefte 6-Inch Portable Battery Air Circulator: A Quiet Hero

Currently available to buy on Amazon for £69.99, the MeacoFan Sefte 6-Inch Portable Battery Air Circulator has quietly become the hero I never knew I needed. Hailed as being 'better than a Dyson' by other delighted users, the lightweight design and powerful fan keep me and my home feeling cool.

What I really like is how quiet it is in use. Even at night, it runs at just a gentle hum, which means it does not disturb sleep or background noise while I am trying to unwind. It does not even disturb my aesthetic either, as the modern design is understated enough to fit in anywhere.

Battery Life and Remote Control

The battery life has also been a big plus, lasting far longer than I expected on a single charge. Being able to recharge it in a few hours and then move it anywhere without worrying about plugs makes it genuinely practical.

I love the fact that it comes with a remote control which magnetically attaches to the front of the fan, which means I am less likely to lose it. I can use the remote or the fan itself to control it, and the controls have all been pretty straightforward.

I have found the different speed settings and oscillation options really handy too, as it means I can switch between a gentle breeze and something a bit stronger depending on how I feel. It is also easy to angle the airflow exactly where I need it, which makes a big difference.

Night Mode and Eco Mode

Night Mode is a really nice touch, especially on warmer nights. With the lights and sounds switched off, it feels much calmer, and I can adjust everything from the remote without having to get up.

The Eco Mode is useful as well, as it automatically tweaks the fan speed to balance comfort and battery life. It just quietly does its thing in the background, which makes it really easy to live with.

Overall, it has become one of those simple but genuinely useful bits of kit during this hot spell. In fact, it is one of the best fans I have ever owned, and I can honestly say I have tried a few.

Alternative Cooling Options

As the temperature rises, demand for cooling devices also grows. For shoppers who cannot wait for Amazon to deliver, Argos is offering the Shark FlexBreeze Portable Desk Fan for £130. Almost double the price of the Sefte 6-Inch, the innovative cooler comes with an additional misting function that produces ultra-fine droplets for instant refreshment, anywhere.

Elsewhere at Dunelm, the £36 Rechargeable Expandable Turbo Fan is a budget-friendly fan without the bells and whistles. Providing a refreshing breeze, shoppers say it is 'quiet enough to run overnight.'

Customer Reviews

It is not just me who thinks the Sefte 6-Inch is a genius addition for the warmer weather. Fellow Amazon shoppers have given it an impressive 4.7 out of five-star rating.

One buyer said: 'Finally a fan worthy of a 5-star rating, aesthetically good looking, quiet when in use, thank god able to sleep and listen to TV with it on and fast and cold.'

Another added: 'Wow, the best fan I have ever bought, even better than the Dyson I have got. You can put it on a timer, it can go up and down, side to side in one go, so it can cool the whole room. It is light enough to carry from room to room, has a remote, so you can put it on a timer in the bedroom and you cannot even hear that it is on. It is the quietest one ever so you can fall asleep. It will turn itself off when using the timer. Might seem expensive, but definitely worth the money.'

A third said: 'Absolutely love this fan. We have it on every night in bed, so it is well used. It never wakes us up, as silent as a fan can be. Well worth paying the extra money for. I would highly recommend this.'

Not every buyer was quite so impressed, however, with one noting: 'Each press of anything is accompanied by a loud beep. When you turn it off, you get a long, loud beep. When it has been on for a bit, you have to press any button to wake up the controls, then the button you actually want to press, so two beeps.'

Most Amazon shoppers seem delighted with the cordless fan, with another explaining: 'This is a fantastic alternative type of fan that works very well. What makes this one special is that not only does it swing left to right, it also moves up and down. And that means it cools the whole room, not just the area it is pointing. It is also very quiet, and whilst you can hear a quiet hum in the dead of night, it is barely noticeable, even on higher levels.'
