An award-winning construction firm based in south-east Queensland has collapsed, with staff being informed of the devastating news via email this week.
Open Projects Group Enters Liquidation
Open Projects Group, which was founded in 2008 and employed more than 75 staff members, has been placed into liquidation. The company was widely regarded as one of the region's largest full-service shop-fitters, having worked on numerous high-profile projects across Queensland.
Staff Notified by Director's Email
Director Kane McCarthy sent an email to all employees, apologising for the outcome and expressing his deep regret. 'I'm deeply sorry that this is how things have ended,' Mr McCarthy wrote. 'This outcome is not a reflection of your work or commitment, and I regret the impact this situation has had on you and your families.'
He confirmed that from this point forward, liquidators will be responsible for managing the business closure and all employee entitlements, ensuring that staff are supported through the transition.
Notable Projects and Legacy
The company's portfolio included several well-known venues, such as:
- Jane's Rivertown Restaurant
- The La Luna Beach Club
- The Gold Coast Turf Club
These projects highlight the firm's significant role in the region's construction and hospitality sectors over the years.
Director's Personal Thanks to Staff
In his email, Mr McCarthy also took a moment to personally thank every employee for their contributions. 'On a personal note, I want to thank every one of you sincerely,' he wrote. 'The work delivered by Open Projects Group over the years was only possible because of the people behind it.'
He added, 'I'm proud of what we achieved together, and I'm genuinely grateful for the effort, loyalty, and professionalism you brought to the business.' This heartfelt message underscores the close-knit nature of the team and the director's appreciation for their hard work, despite the unfortunate closure.
The collapse of Open Projects Group marks a significant loss in the Queensland construction industry, leaving many employees and clients to navigate the aftermath of this sudden liquidation.
