Zavvi, the online retailer popular among collectors of Blu-ray, DVD, Lego, Pokemon and Star Wars branded items, has been placed into administration, with all outstanding orders and pre-orders cancelled.
The company, which has traded as an online-only store since 2009, ceased trading with immediate effect on 12 October 2026. Its website has been taken offline and replaced with a notice from administrators BDO LLP.
Background and history
Zavvi was first established in 2007, spun off from Virgin Megastores’ CD, DVD and Blu-ray media stores. At the time, all 125 UK high street stores traded under the Zavvi name. However, by the end of 2008, the chain entered administration, and in 2009, its assets were bought out of administration and relaunched as an online-only website.
Today’s administration marks the second time the company has entered insolvency proceedings.
Administrators’ statement
BDO LLP issued a statement confirming the appointment of Chris Skey and Kerry Bailey as joint administrators of ZavviGroup Ltd, which trades as Zavvi. The statement says: “The affairs, business and property of the company are being managed by the joint administrators.”
It adds: “Administration is a formal insolvency process. As a result of the company’s financial position, the company has ceased trading with immediate effect.”
Customer guidance
The administrators said the company is unable to fulfil any outstanding orders or pre-orders, and customers should not place new orders through the website. Returns for items of any kind will not be accepted.
Customers who have paid for goods that have not been received are advised to contact their bank, card issuer or payment provider promptly to establish whether they may be entitled to recover their payment. Depending on the payment method and circumstances, customers may be able to make a claim under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974, request a chargeback, or use another buyer-protection process.
A dedicated customer enquiries inbox has been established at Zavvigroupltd@bdo.co.uk. Customers who email this address will receive an automated response containing a detailed frequently asked questions document and information about submitting a claim in the administration. Due to the significant number of affected customers, the joint administrators will not ordinarily be able to provide individual responses to questions addressed in the FAQs.
Further updates will be published on the website when available.
