Woman's £22 Chanel Shoe Bargain from Charity Shop Turns Out to Be Fake
Woman's £22 Chanel Shoe Bargain Turns Out Fake

A woman was thrilled to pick up a pair of Chanel footwear for just £22 at her local charity shop – but didn't realise one little thing until she took them home.

The Thrill of the Find

It's not unusual to stumble on a cheap thrift store find from time-to-time. Second-hand shopping can require considerable time and patience to uncover a genuine bargain, but it's definitely achievable. And just recently, one woman took to social media where she showcased her purchase after discovering a pair of designer shoes for a mere $30 (£22). Despite declaring the Chanel footwear as her "best ever thrift find" – she was quickly humbled when she took them home.

In a post on Reddit, she said: "My best ever thrift find! Perfect fit and definitely lambskin leather!" Accompanying photos in the post revealed the Chanel shoes featuring leather with a beige bow adorning the front. A second image highlighted how minimally they'd been worn by their previous owner.

The Humbling Discovery

However, what the woman failed to notice was whether the shoes were genuine. She later revealed: "Edit: Apparently they are fake! Bummer but will still be wearing them because they fit like a glove and are leather. Many thanks to those with better eyes for designer than me!"

The comments section was quickly flooded with people admitting they wouldn't have spotted it either – while others offered advice to prevent similar mishaps in future.

Advice from Commenters

One said: "You didn't too badly, even if they are fake. My metric is: You couldn't buy a pair of lambskin, leather-soled ballet flats at Target for $30 (£22). So you did well. The trick is to wear an outfit that's worthy of real Chanel shoes. Don't wear them with a polyester skirt and cheap accessories."

Another user highlighted a method for spotting whether they're the real deal or not. They commented: "I'm sorry but these are very fake. Edit: when you think you found designer just take a closer look at the craftsmanship. In high end designer shoes every single stitch is perfection, there's no wiggles and deviations. Chanel bottoms are always leather and they usually get worn very fast, even after one wear. In your shoes the biggest issue is the logo being printed not in straight line, compared to the other shoe, you'll never see anything like that in real Chanel. Also the outsoles look plastic instead of leather, and the logo carved in them is off too."

The poster replied: "Thank you for taking the time to tell me what's off about them (genuinely/not sarcasm)! I really have ZERO eye except feeling the leather (which the outsoles surprisingly are) so this is really kind of you to point out! I would've been so foolish to blindly wear without knowing so thank you."
