Halton Council’s planning department has approved plans to transform a unit at Crow Wood Park Pavilion into the park’s first café, set to open this summer. Known as 'The Glass Nook', the takeaway café will offer hot and cold beverages and light refreshments, and will be available for community activities.
Details of the Café
The café will be managed by a tenant and features a 35sqm seating area, a 4.64sqm kitchen/utility room, and two accessible toilets. Water, electricity, and waste connections are already installed, with scope for both indoor and outdoor seating. The council earlier issued a call for potential operators, describing it as a 'flexible, low‑cost' venue suitable for a seasonal or trial café operation.
Planning Conditions
Approval was granted with a condition for covered cycle storage. The planning officer stated: 'Prior to the commencement of the café use details of secure and covered cycle parking facilities shall be submitted to and approved in writing.' The justification was to encourage sustainable transport modes and ensure sufficient cycle parking provision in the interests of accessibility.
Community Role
In its appeal for expressions of interest, the council said: 'The café will be expected to play an active role in the community by hosting or making space available for small events, workshops or social activities.' It noted that the tender process would offer businesses a 'valuable chance' to test concepts, expand their offering, and introduce something fresh to the local area.
Existing Park Facilities
Crow Wood Park already has a bowling green, a junior football pitch, junior and youth play areas, a multi-use games court, and an ornamental garden. The new café is expected to enhance the park’s appeal as a community hub.
