A shopper who frequents Sainsbury's and Asda has discovered that Lidl offers a far superior selection of steaks, with greater variety, competitive pricing, and impressive quality. Mia O'Hare, a Senior Spare Time Journalist, shared her experience after visiting a Lidl store for a last-minute meal.
Unrivalled Variety and Pricing
O'Hare noted that Lidl's meat department was considerably larger than her local Asda and Sainsbury's branches. The German discounter stocks an extensive range of beef steaks, including frying steaks, rump, sirloin, ribeye, and Aberdeen Angus. Prices start at approximately £3.70 and can reach £12.99. She chose a twin-pack of sirloin steaks for £11.95, which she found to be a steep price for Lidl but justified by the quality.
Quality Comparison
Having sampled steaks from Asda and Sainsbury's numerous times, O'Hare was genuinely impressed by Lidl's offerings. Once pan-fried, the steak emerged succulent, juicy, and tender, avoiding the chewiness and lack of flavour she often encountered elsewhere. She described it as a consistently satisfying and flavoursome meal.
For comparison, Sainsbury's retails 21-day-matured sirloin steaks individually for £6 or £7.75 in the Taste the Difference range, with a thick-cut sirloin priced at £11.25 per steak. At Asda, shoppers can pick up an individual sirloin for £5.43, a Marble & Cleaver sirloin for £6.28, or an Exceptional by Asda Aberdeen Angus sirloin for £7.98 each.
Lidl's Beef Range
Lidl said of its beef options: "Whether it's a juicy fillet steak, a Sunday roasting joint or mince for burgers, our succulent Deluxe, Birchwood British and Strathvale Scottish beef ranges have all you need." The supermarket offers a wide selection to cater for various budgets, suitable for summer barbecues, romantic dinners, or midweek meals.
O'Hare concluded that Lidl stands out as her go-to destination for steak, offering a consistently superior product compared to Sainsbury's and Asda.
