Prince Harry is reportedly feeling more angsty than ever after his recent return to the UK, where he and his family had an emotional reunion with King Charles at Highgrove. Royal commentator Jane Barr suggests that the visit has intensified Harry's longing for his former life.
Emotional Reunion at Highgrove
After much speculation about whether Meghan Markle and their two children, Prince Archie (7) and Princess Lilibet (5), would accompany him, the entire Sussex family made the trip. They met with King Charles at Highgrove on Friday, a location deeply significant to Harry, who spent much of his childhood there.
Barr wrote in her Substack: "This must have been very emotional for Harry, who is obviously desperate to return to his old life. He was raised at Highgrove, after all. I bet this whole trip makes him more angsty than ever."
King Charles's Hospitality
The King made himself available for the meeting, which was arranged at the last minute. Barr analyzed the experience from the monarch's perspective, noting that Highgrove is not a flashy palace or a super-exclusive residence like Balmoral, but it offers privacy and a down-to-earth setting.
"He invited them to his sanctum, but it also is not a flashy palace or even one of the super exclusive private residences that carry special mystique, like Balmoral," she observed.
Meghan's Potential Disappointment
While both Harry and Charles appeared content with the reunion, Barr suggested that Meghan might have felt let down due to losing certain bragging rights. "Meghan can't be easy breezy about how great it was to visit Balmoral this summer," Barr wrote.
Highgrove, though less grand than Buckingham Palace, is far from modest and offers significant advantages, including the privacy that Meghan values. "Highgrove is private and tucked away, allowing Charles to meet the Sussexes without any paparazzi shots, and it is as down-to-earth as possible while also a home to a sitting monarch," Barr added.
Looking Ahead
The family visit appears to have been a triumph, but it raises more questions about the future. Harry is likely savoring the moment, appreciating the opportunity for his children to spend quality time with their grandfather. He is set to appear on the Joe Marler Will See You Now podcast on Monday, July 13, where he may drop hints about what transpired at Highgrove and what lies ahead.
