Matalan has issued an urgent recall for seven styles of bikini tops after discovering that the underwiring can come loose during wear, posing a risk of scratches and cuts to the skin. The retailer notified the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) of the defect, which affects items sold between 14 November 2024 and 26 June this year.
The affected products are from the Spring Mainstream and Mainstream Postcard ranges. Customers are advised to stop using them immediately and return them to any Matalan store for a full refund, with no receipt required. The retailer apologised for the inconvenience, stating that customer safety is its highest priority.
This recall is the third this summer for Matalan. Two days ago, it recalled Miss Summer dresses and outfit sets over strangulation risks from long cords, and in June it recalled boys' swimwear for similar hazards. The OPSS confirmed the bikini tops fail to meet the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.
