Topps Tiles has confirmed the closure of 23 UK stores this year, with one London branch set to shut within days. The Cheam store will close on August 7, with "everything must go" signs appearing in its windows.

Locals reported the signs in the windows of the branch, which was described as "great" with "helpful" staff. This closure is part of a wider list of 23 stores set to shut this year, representing 7% of the brand's estate. In April, the company confirmed it would close 15 more stores on top of eight previously announced.
CEO on cost-saving measures
Topps Tiles chief executive Alex Jensen said the closures were being made to "support year-on-year growth and provide a stronger financial platform for 2027 and beyond." He added: "In light of subdued consumer sentiment and geopolitical uncertainty, as well as the cumulative impact of cost inflation, the management team is implementing a targeted programme of self-help measures weighted towards the second half."
Sales and acquisitions
The group, based in Enderby, Leicestershire, reported sales fell 0.1% to £142.7 million in the six months to March 28. Revenues were impacted by a "lengthy" competition process and disposal programme following its purchase of competitor CTD Tiles in 2024. A Competition and Markets Authority probe forced Topps Tiles to sell off several branches due to competition concerns. The company also bought rival Fired Earth out of administration in December 2025 for £3 million.
Several major retailers have slashed their high street estate in recent years, with icons like WHSmith focusing on airports and travel locations rather than the high street. Major banks, such as Santander and Lloyds, have also shuttered brick-and-mortar locations as customers move towards online banking.
