Three London Streets Named Among UK's Best for Independent Shops

New research has revealed the UK’s top high streets for independent shops, with three London locations making the list. The study, conducted by American Express and GlobalData, assessed factors including the number of independent shops, street vibrancy, and aesthetic appeal.

Brighton topped the list, followed by Sheffield and Manchester. London’s Coal Drops Yard and Stable Street ranked fourth, while Broadway Market came sixth. The findings were released ahead of Small Business Saturday on December 6, a campaign encouraging consumers to shop locally.

The survey also examined Gen Z spending habits, finding that this age group is driving growth in vintage and retro sectors. Dan Edelman of American Express noted that small businesses shape vibrant communities, and younger shoppers are fuelling this trend. Over half of 19-28-year-olds said socialising was their main reason for visiting high streets.
