Coffee giant Starbucks has hinted that fans who missed out on its wildly popular 'Bearista' glass cup might get another chance to buy one, following a promotional game that gave away thousands.
The Elusive Viral Cup
The 20-ounce cold drink cup, crafted in the shape of an adorable bear with a knitted green hat and matching straw, first launched in stores in November 2025 priced at $29.95. Demand was so immense that customers queued for hours, only to find stocks severely limited. Reports emerged that some stores had just one or two cups available, with claims that employees purchased them before shops opened.
The situation caused significant backlash, forcing Starbucks to issue a public apology. A company spokesperson acknowledged the disappointment, stating the excitement had "exceeded even our biggest expectations" and that items sold out rapidly despite large shipments.
From Shelves to Digital Prizes
Following the chaotic in-store launch, Starbucks shifted strategy. The coveted Bearista cup was introduced as a prize in the annual 'Starbucks for Life' digital game, which ran from 8 December 2025 to 4 January 2026. Players embarked on virtual journeys across Seattle, Milan, Tokyo, and New York City for a chance to win.
Now, one week after the game concluded, Starbucks has revealed the scale of the giveaway. In an email to players, the chain announced that a staggering 8,903,801 prizes were won in total, including 16,909 'homes' for the Bearista cups.
A Surprise in Your Inbox?
The promotional email, featuring an image of the viral cup, teased a potential new opportunity. "Didn't snag one?" it read. "Keep an eye out – your inbox might have a little surprise up its sleeve this week!"
This direct message to Rewards Members suggests Starbucks may be planning a targeted sale or a new wave of availability for the remaining fans. The cup's popularity was further evidenced by a thriving resale market, where some sellers listed the £30 cup for over £90 online.
Starbucks has been contacted for further clarification on what form this new opportunity might take. For now, hopeful collectors are advised to monitor their emails closely for any update from the coffee chain.
