Sixes Cricket Bar Chain Enters Administration, Closes Southampton Venue
Sixes Cricket Bar Chain Falls Into Administration

The popular cricket-themed entertainment chain Sixes, which counts England captain Ben Stokes among its high-profile backers, has officially entered administration after facing a period of "challenging" trading conditions.

Venue Closures and Rescue Talks

As a direct result of the financial pressures, the company has confirmed the immediate closure of its Southampton venue. Sixes operates a total of 16 sites across England, with an additional location in the West Indies.

However, administrators from FRP Advisory, who were appointed on Wednesday 18 December 2024, have moved swiftly to reassure customers. They have stated that all other locations will continue to trade as normal while they actively pursue a potential rescue deal. All existing customer bookings are set to be honoured during this period.

Star-Studded Backing and Market Challenges

Sixes was founded in 2020 by entrepreneurs Calum Mackinnon and Andy Waugh, tapping into the booming 'competitive socialising' market alongside rivals like Flight Club and Junkyard Golf. The brand gained significant attention in 2023 when it secured investment from the 4Cast Investment Group. This group notably includes England cricket stars Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, and Stuart Broad.

Despite this strong backing and a core of profitable sites, the group acknowledged that some venues have struggled amidst fierce sector competition and reduced consumer spending.

Administrator's Statement and Future Prospects

Tony Wright, joint administrator and partner at FRP Advisory, commented on the situation. "Sixes has built a strong brand in the social entertainment space with its unique venues proving very popular with customers," he said.

"While some locations have struggled in an increasingly competitive market, the business has significant potential, and we’re encouraged by the early interest we’ve received from parties interested in acquiring the brand and its strongest-performing sites."

Wright emphasised that their immediate priority is to secure the best outcome for the business and its stakeholders while ensuring a seamless experience for customers over the busy Christmas period and beyond. He expressed confidence that with the right investment and focus, Sixes can capitalise on its core strengths.

FRP Advisory confirmed it is currently in discussions with "a number of interested parties about a sale" of the business.
