Pep&Co, the UK discount fashion chain, is closing its store in Glenrothes, Scotland, on October 22. The store has operated in the town for 11 years, and a closing-down sale is now offering discounts of up to 50% on items.
Store closure announced after 11 years
Staff confirmed the closure in an update shared with locals: "Unfortunately, we have been informed that after 11 years, the store will be closing on October 22." Signs for the closing-down sale now show discounts of up to 50% on products that were already low-priced.
The chain operates 32 stores across the UK, and its products are also available in select Poundland stores nationwide.
Locals react with disappointment
Despite the bargains available before the closure, residents have expressed disappointment. One Facebook user commented: "Another good shop going, there will be nothing left, sorry for all you with your jobs."
Another said: "I'm so heartbroken! I'm gonna miss Pep&Co so much, I loved going there." A third shared: "It was a great wee shop...another one in town closing...so sorry to read this."
Another commented: "This is so sad, I'm sorry that you are having to go through this, you've always been super helpful when I've been in the store. Good luck to everyone."
Brand background
Pep&Co is owned by the South African company Pepkor, a wholly owned subsidiary of Steinhoff International, and is based in Watford, England. The brand opened its first store in the Newlands Shopping Centre in Kettering, Northamptonshire, in July 2015.
Last year, Gordon Brothers, the new owners of Poundland, announced they would relaunch the Pep&Co brand to replace Pepco-branded products. The company has not shared a statement about the closure of the Glenrothes store.
