Maya Jama has received support from fans of The Celebrity Traitors after she admitted she had no idea her fellow Traitors did not want to be in the role. The Love Island presenter was selected as a Traitor by host Claudia Winkleman in the first episode of series two, alongside actor Richard E Grant.
In a twist, the pair had to recruit a third Traitor and picked comedian James Acaster, who had been vocal from the start about not wanting to be a Traitor. Richard was banished during the first roundtable, and Maya and James then decided to recruit mathematician Hannah Fry, who had already faced much speculation.
Fans brand James and Hannah 'boring'
The trio have so far remained undetected, but fans have taken to social media to brand James and Hannah "boring". During Friday's episode, Maya gave them some words of advice as they revealed their struggles, saying: "I can't be the only one out here killing people" before jokingly adding: "Where is Richard when I need him? Rich. the spirit of Rich."
Fans will recall that, like Maya, Richard was delighted when Claudia selected him as a Traitor and could not wait to murder his way through the competition, but he was caught out.
Maya's social media response
On Saturday, Maya logged into her X account to remind viewers she was unaware how much James and Hannah did not want to be Traitors. She wrote: "All I will say after last nights episode is I had NO IDEA they didn't want to be traitors when I agreed to recruit them. Remember you see more on the TV than I did in that castle #CelebrityTraitors."
Fans have since rushed to Maya's defence, with one replying: "Maya I hope your back is ok after single handedly carrying the traitors since Richard left x". Another said: "Maya doing a fantastic job as a traitor so far, carrying the others."
A third added: "Girla. No shade, I would throw James A. and Hannah under the bus (for the mere fact that neither are pulling their weight and literally giving … nothing) and start anew. It's so … meh watching you strategise alone and clean up the other Traitors’ mistakes and fumbles." A fourth agreed: "Wouldn’t be opposed to you throwing them under the bus and starting afresh." A fifth said: "You're doing a fantastic job as a traitor. Hope you go all the way to the end."
