Nigella Lawson launches wine, beer and spirits firm

Nigella Lawson has incorporated a new business called Bar Nigella Limited, according to Companies House records. The company, registered on March 12 this year, is described as being for "the wholesale of wine, beer, spirits and other alcoholic beverages".

Company details

The 66-year-old chef and television presenter is listed as a director of the firm and has completed all the government's verification requirements. The other director is Alexander Fane, CEO of the events and management company Fane. A Fane email is listed on Nigella's own website as the point of contact for business enquiries.

While the business was incorporated more than six months ago, little more information appears to be available. It is also unclear what the public name of the business will be and whether or not it will be Bar Nigella.

Career background

Nigella studied medieval and modern languages at Oxford University before working as a journalist and writing her first cooking book in 1998. She rose to fame through her first TV show on Channel 4 called Nigella Bites and has since been a regular feature on screens.

She was announced as a new The Great British Bake Off judge in January, replacing long-standing judge Dame Prue Leith. The next episode of series 13 airs on Tuesday October 13.

Industry context

If she goes ahead with the new venture, Nigella will join stars like David Beckham, Snoop Dogg, Gary Barlow, and Tom Holland who have all entered the alcoholic drinks industry. DJ Charlie Sloth also invested in Swansea-based spirits firm Au Vodka, which was recently sold.

Nigella has been contacted for comment.
