Newcastle-based affordable jewellery brand Weezy Pop, founded by Louise Cowley in October 2023, has rapidly grown from a hobby to a business stocked at Fenwick Newcastle and collaborating with the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art. The brand, known for its colourful laser-cut acrylic charms that are interchangeable and designed to be mixed, matched, and collected, recently launched a limited edition collection at the Baltic's Summer Block Party.
From Laser Cutter to Primark Pop-Up
Louise Cowley started Weezy Pop after buying a large laser cutting machine, initially intending to make mirror signs or wall hangings. However, after making heart-shaped earrings for two friends, word-of-mouth on Instagram led to a pop-up at Primark Newcastle within three months. Natalie Cheyne, originally a collector of the charms, joined in 2024 to help with production. Cowley told ChronicleLive: "I wanted a new creative outlet so I basically splashed out and bought a huge laser cutting machine." She added: "I always thought I was going to make mirror signs or wall hangings. Definitely not jewellery."
Northern Soul and Community Pride
The Weezy Pop x Baltic collection, described as a "love letter to the North East," features five designs: Love Loud, Big Heart Energy, Radgie, Peace, Love and Two Fingers to Hate, and United. Only 50 of each design will be produced, with 20 available at the launch event and the remaining 30 available exclusively at the Baltic two weeks later. Cowley said: "This collection is our love letter to the North East. Every design represents something we love about this region, whether that's creativity, community, individuality or simply the warmth and humour of the people who live here."
Fenwick and Baltic Partnerships
Weezy Pop is now a permanent fixture at Fenwick Newcastle. The Baltic collaboration is the brand's biggest cultural partnership to date, and Weezy Pop will return for a six-month pop-up in October 2026. Cowley said: "As a Newcastle brand, we've always been looked up to institutions like Fenwick and Baltic. To have been welcomed into both feels incredibly special." Graham Easterlow, Director of Development & Enterprise for Baltic, said: "We are delighted to be working with Weezy Pop on these new and exciting charms. We are proud to support local brands."
Versatile and Meaningful Jewellery
The charms are hand-assembled in Newcastle and designed to be swapped, remixed, and collected. Natalie Cheyne said: "Our jewellery is so statement. You know a piece of our jewellery the moment you see it, there's nothing else like it." The first 50 customers at the Baltic launch received an exclusive tote goody bag designed by Studio 730 Designs. The rooftop event featured DJs, Weezy Poptails, and Weezy Popcorn, creating an immersive experience.
